Now that it is confirmed that Henry Wu will be making his third appearance in the franchise, the story for the film potentially becomes a bit more clear. It is hardly a surprise that the sequel will continue the ideas presented in Jurassic World, but with more dinosaur embryos in the hands of InGen, the potential is there for more hybrid creations from the minds of mad scientists.
So far, the only new additions to the cast have been Toby Jones and Rafe Spall as ‘key roles,’ but given this recent confirmation, both would appear to fit the mold of fellow scientists and researchers for InGen. It seems very possible that Wong, Jones, and Spall could be working together to bread a new type of dinosaur with military capability, but any confirmations on this speculation will have to wait.
Meanwhile, Wong’s appearance continues to link the new franchise back to the first film. With the success of Jurassic World, it would seem more likely that other characters from the first films could reappear as well, but so far there has not yet been any real signs pointing to this happening. Instead, Sam Neill reasons Alan Grant won’t return because he is either retired or dead, but Jeff Goldblum is open to the idea of coming back. Time will tell whether or not Universal brings more familiar faces into the franchise, but for now BD Wong will continue to serve as the connecting tissue.
